Cinco EN Mayo

That's right, I said Cinco EN Mayo, not Cinco DE Mayo. The difference being "In" rather than "Of" for those of you without the benefit of a minor in Spanish - or rudimentary Sesame Street. Not that my minor has been all that beneficial in an area devoid of anyone speaking Spanish. We don't even get Univision. I would have kept cable if I could have watched some telenovelas. But I digress, as usual. Anyway, although Cinco de Mayo is a great day for us gringos to get our margaritas on, I thought it might be more appropriate to declare a goal for this day, ergo Cinco en Mayo. Five in May. As in five pounds. There is no real reason besides lack of will power that I can't lose 5 pounds in May. Especially as I will be continuing to train for my half marathon the first weekend in June. If nothing else I should be running a few of those pounds off. How nice would it be if I could also eat right and lose a couple more?

We'll see how it goes. My goals tend to fall by the wayside pretty quickly. Although I am still sticking to the small mocha lattes. And small anything else that comes in sizes. Of course anything that comes in sizes should be verbotten anyway.

Salúd!

P.S. I changed my cell phone calling plan and I save $12 this month. Yeah!

Sounds like a good plan to me. In fact, I'd like to join you on that. I'm not training for a marathon, but I could certainly use to lose 5-10lbs.

I just always feel like "stealing" my mom's bike at the most unrealistic times -- like 11pm. :P

i do love a good late night ride (go to EMS or something and invest the $20 in a headlight and taillight – it's absolutely worth it).

after losing inches but not pounds at the gym, i changed up my workout habits and i'm eating much better – and i've lost 5 pounds in two weeks. this is helping a lot in terms of the food.

synopsis: you know where your shirts come from (it says so on the tag); you will spend an entire weekend looking for a washer and dryer; yet the stuff you put in your body, you probably have no idea where it came from, and very little idea as to what's in it. you just go to the grocery and buy what's cheap.

interesting side bar not in this article: in 2004, the u.s. sent $20 million worth of lettuce to mexico. the same year, we imported $20 million worth of mexican lettuce. california ships 20% of its table grapes to china, which happens to be the largest table grapes exporter in the world. i'm going to walk down to the farmer's market now.

I'd actually be happy with losing inches. Inches or pounds, it doesn't matter to me, as long as I can fit into some of my old pants/shorts (so I can save some money in that area).

Making Eye Babies

Colleges often have a lot of rules the students need to follow. After all, a bunch of 18-21 year olds can't really be expected to self-govern on their own, at least not 24/7, no matter how vehement they are that they can do just that. (I was 18-21 once myself so I know it's annoying to hear that. I don't mean all 18-21 year olds individually, I mean when they all get together in one place.) Then there are Christian Colleges which have more rules, often based on biblical teachings and moral dictates. Further down the spectrum is Bob Jones University* which considers the Christian colleges just too darn liberal so they piles on a bunch of morally based codes of behavior. Not to be outdone by the crazy liberal heathens at Bob Jones, Pensacola Christian College goes hog wild with the rules and moral imperatives and makes the Taliban look almost liberal. An article in the March 24th edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education explains some of the rules and regulations the stu...

Gone by the wayside

I have no idea if anyone is reading this anymore. If you have been loyally checking back now and again I applaud you. At one point this blog was a therapeutic outlet for me. I'm glad to have a chronicle of my experiences during this time of my life. Now, however, instead of a creative outlet it's more of a nagging reminder that I should be posting and this girl does not need one more thing on her "To Do" list. I'd love for you to explore the archives if you so chose. If you have already done so, here's a brief update: Friendster Guy and I are still together and co-habitating. We are in domestic, but still unwedded, bliss (that status could be a post or two in and of itself, but, as I've just said, I'm done with that.) We're so domesticated we're in the market for granite countertops. We also just returned from an Aussie/New Zealand vacation and if 8 days in a tiny RV won't solidify (or destroy) a relationship nothing will. We're stronge...

Addendum to Resolutions

I'm adding two things to my New Year's Resolutions - 5) Read more using this list as a guide: 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. I have no idea how many I've already read. I'll have to make a spreadsheet. You can do anything with a spreadsheet. Not that you should , but you can. 6) Get a massage every 6-8 weeks . This probably doesn't need an explanation. I had one for only the 3rd time this week. It's been at least 4 years since my last one. My gym has a spa attached to it and they had an intern doing free massages. Hello? Sign me up! Now that I've had one I'm wanting more. If I eat out less I might even be able to justify it. I wonder if I can write it off on my taxes?
