Motivated

I'm feeling very accomplished today.

Partly to allay my guilt at not going out running, I have been getting a bunch of stuff done since I got out of work.

- I got my haircut.
- Filled up my car. (Ok, so I did these first two on my lunch break.)
- Went to the recycling center, aka Transfer Station.
- Updated Quicken. (I'm switching from biweekly paychecks to monthly paychecks and there is going to be a little bit of a financial squeeze between now and the first. Luckily, my big bills aren't due until then.)
- Uploaded 4 CDs from the library into my computer. (Why did it take me this long to realize I could do this? Doh! Free music. All genres. Get thee to thy library and pillage their collections!)
- Found a basket for a wedding gift I need to put together for next weekend. They didn't register so I'm giving them a bunch of breakfast goodies - jams, syrup, International Foods coffee etc...Stuff they don't need to keep forever.
- Did my laundry.
- And now I'm waiting for dinner to be ready.
- Then, if the motivation continues, and even if it doesn't, I have the lofty goal of finishing transcribing the last interview for my thesis. Wish me luck!

You gotta run with the motivation when it hits you. The key is to not sit down when you get home. It helps when all your seating areas are covered in the stuff you moved out of your old office.

i've wanted to get the cd's out at the library and put them onto my computer, but at my library there are BIG signs everywhere saying how illegal it is. I feel so guilty doing it like they are going to know I did it...

Last year, Hawkman Entertainment, toured with Johnnie Gee. UPN/CBS filmed a four-hour event special form Mt. Pleasant, TX at Miller's Cove Arena, as well as being shown throughout the world.

Johnnie Gee story is the stuff of which legends are made.

It is a saga that began in America's heartland at age 13 in Milwaukee Wisconsin, where Johnnie Gee was born on September 29th, 1959 to Elgie and D.W Gee, into a family of seven brothers and sisters.

When Mama Gee, herself a blues lover, noticed her sons' growing interest in music and performing, she devoted herself to the careful development of their nascent talents.

Through hard work and dedication, Johnnie, Dewitt, Jerome, these three brothers and other friends became the hottest band in the Midwest, "The Exclusive 'Step By Step' Band".

The group began performing professionally in and around Milwaukee and Chicago in 1969; later that year, the siblings took their polished song-and-dance act to New York's famed Brunswick Records, the home of Jackie Wilson, The Chilites, Bohannon, Tyrone Davis, Shalamar, Eugene Records, Decca Records, Chess Records and many more that started record labels worldwide.

'The Step By Step Band', turned the place out, winning over Nat Tarnopol and a label contract with Brunswick Records.

The staff reaction was welcoming , the founder of the New York-based Brunswick Records, Nat Tarnopol, then the most successful rhythm and blues label around.

Captivated by what they saw and heard, Nat signed the group immediately.

Thus began one of the most successful runs by a recording group in soul, pop, rhythm and blues music history out of the Midwest.

You can go to Brunswick Records web site and read the history of Brunswick and see or original LP listed on page 5 (At the bottom).

Johnnie Gee is currently back on the scene with his new 'EP' "One More Time", recorded May 2005 and distributed/released in September 2005, if you like retro soul, pop or rhythm and blues, music with a professional sound from a recording artist that still has original product selling, thousands in Japan, China , Australia, US , The Netherlands and many more cities and countries around the world.

Gone by the wayside

I have no idea if anyone is reading this anymore. If you have been loyally checking back now and again I applaud you. At one point this blog was a therapeutic outlet for me. I'm glad to have a chronicle of my experiences during this time of my life. Now, however, instead of a creative outlet it's more of a nagging reminder that I should be posting and this girl does not need one more thing on her "To Do" list. I'd love for you to explore the archives if you so chose. If you have already done so, here's a brief update: Friendster Guy and I are still together and co-habitating. We are in domestic, but still unwedded, bliss (that status could be a post or two in and of itself, but, as I've just said, I'm done with that.) We're so domesticated we're in the market for granite countertops. We also just returned from an Aussie/New Zealand vacation and if 8 days in a tiny RV won't solidify (or destroy) a relationship nothing will. We're stronge

Making Eye Babies

Colleges often have a lot of rules the students need to follow. After all, a bunch of 18-21 year olds can't really be expected to self-govern on their own, at least not 24/7, no matter how vehement they are that they can do just that. (I was 18-21 once myself so I know it's annoying to hear that. I don't mean all 18-21 year olds individually, I mean when they all get together in one place.) Then there are Christian Colleges which have more rules, often based on biblical teachings and moral dictates. Further down the spectrum is Bob Jones University* which considers the Christian colleges just too darn liberal so they piles on a bunch of morally based codes of behavior. Not to be outdone by the crazy liberal heathens at Bob Jones, Pensacola Christian College goes hog wild with the rules and moral imperatives and makes the Taliban look almost liberal. An article in the March 24th edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education explains some of the rules and regulations the stu

Everything old is new again...

It's been 10 years since last I posted here. Ten. Years. I guess it is true that things on the internet never disappear. I'm honestly shocked I was able to log in. A quick update: Friendster Guy and I split up, amicably, 2 years ago. Since then I've dated 3 gentlemen, the most recent of which lasted a year but once again, ended. Amicably. I'm excellent at breakups apparently. I have just reentered the world of on-line dating and was thinking how I used to chronicle my exploits here. A lot of things have changed in the interim - texting, Facebook being open to all, the ubiquity of camera phones, a new generation of dating sites/apps. But, a lot of things haven't. Men are still...men. The technology may have changed, but the people behind the scenes are still the same. The main difference is that I'm now 15 years older. Maybe, just maybe, I'm also wiser. And maybe, if I cross my fingers really hard, so are the gentlemen I end up meeting.
