I just saved $475 by having Geico

Today could have been really shitty. I mean $500 less in my bank account shitty. Instead, I'm basking in the glow of good customer service and a $25 new windshield.

When I got in to work this morning I called Geico to make sure I was doing everything right when it came to getting my windshield fixed. I spoke with a great woman whose first words after I explained that my window had cracked were, "I'm so sorry to hear that!" She's in the Glass Claims department so she probably hears my story 300 times per day and says that to everyone but it definitely started the conversation off on the right foot. That was good because her next sentence was, "You have a $500 deductible so to get the windshield fixed it is generally $500." Before I could go into heart palpatations she continued, "However, you have [something that sounded like mechanical failure coverage] and so the deductible is only $50 and that's all you'll be responsible for. She laughed when I squealed in delight.

In addition to Gieco, the service at the window place was great as well. When I made the appointment they told me it would take an hour. Not only were they done in about 50 minutes, but the guy gave me a coupon for $25 off! So what could have been and easy $500 cost me $25. Awesome.

I'll tell you what, I have been a Geico customer for 9 years (as the nice lady I spoke with reminded me and thanked me for "being part of the family") and I've had a really good experience. I've paid in a lot but I've also got deals and money back when I needed to. When I was rear ended in Hartford, CT at rush hour and couldn't pull off to get the other guy's information I avoided getting it fixed for a month or so until someone else hit the truck in a parking lot and knocked off the mirror. The claims woman who looked over the truck told me with a wink, wink, nudge nudge that the mirror often pops off during accidents and she put them under the same deductible for me so I didn't have to pay twice.

Then, a few years later when I swirved to avoid a head on collision and hit a garage instead, totalling the pick-up, I got way more back than I was expecting (despite the fact that I was "at fault" because the guy, literally flying through the air at me in an SUV, never actually hit me.) Like $4000 more than the car was worth. And my insurance has never gone up. In fact, it's gone down. It helps that I've been getting older but still, I can't complain. If I have to have car insurance, I'm glad that it's been working in my favor.

I really enjoyed your positive review on your customer service experience. I think its great when you finally get someone who cares and truely means it! There are so many companies out there right now that dont know the first thing about customer service, I hope Geico Corp reads this so that they can keep the customer service training going for their employees.

You have to pay for a new windshield? I guess here in MA or maybe with my insurance I get free glass. I just had my windshield replaced a few months ago. I had a crack and was afraid it would spread so I called the glass company- they called my insurance-Metlife. metlife called me back witht he claim number. They too were really nice! The glass company came out about 2 hours later and fixed it in about an hour and I was good to go.

If the crack had been under 6 inches when I got it to a repair shop it would have been free. But since I had about .0136 seconds before it was 6 inches long I didn't have that option. And I guess normally the company comes out to fix it but in this weather they request you bring it in.

I work in Geico claims and was happy to find and read your post :) We really do genuinely care for people and are trained for a long time to do our jobs. I never see anyone in the office try to low ball anyone. In fact I've seen my supervisors tell me to go out of the way to help people so that we leave a good impression with them so they'll switch over :) People pay enough each month, its nice when they can see how well it can work for them. Take care!

It gets down to choose a proper partner who utilizes your funds in a right way - that is incorporate it in real deals, parts and divides the income with me.

Gone by the wayside

I have no idea if anyone is reading this anymore. If you have been loyally checking back now and again I applaud you. At one point this blog was a therapeutic outlet for me. I'm glad to have a chronicle of my experiences during this time of my life. Now, however, instead of a creative outlet it's more of a nagging reminder that I should be posting and this girl does not need one more thing on her "To Do" list. I'd love for you to explore the archives if you so chose. If you have already done so, here's a brief update: Friendster Guy and I are still together and co-habitating. We are in domestic, but still unwedded, bliss (that status could be a post or two in and of itself, but, as I've just said, I'm done with that.) We're so domesticated we're in the market for granite countertops. We also just returned from an Aussie/New Zealand vacation and if 8 days in a tiny RV won't solidify (or destroy) a relationship nothing will. We're stronge

Making Eye Babies

Colleges often have a lot of rules the students need to follow. After all, a bunch of 18-21 year olds can't really be expected to self-govern on their own, at least not 24/7, no matter how vehement they are that they can do just that. (I was 18-21 once myself so I know it's annoying to hear that. I don't mean all 18-21 year olds individually, I mean when they all get together in one place.) Then there are Christian Colleges which have more rules, often based on biblical teachings and moral dictates. Further down the spectrum is Bob Jones University* which considers the Christian colleges just too darn liberal so they piles on a bunch of morally based codes of behavior. Not to be outdone by the crazy liberal heathens at Bob Jones, Pensacola Christian College goes hog wild with the rules and moral imperatives and makes the Taliban look almost liberal. An article in the March 24th edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education explains some of the rules and regulations the stu

Everything old is new again...

It's been 10 years since last I posted here. Ten. Years. I guess it is true that things on the internet never disappear. I'm honestly shocked I was able to log in. A quick update: Friendster Guy and I split up, amicably, 2 years ago. Since then I've dated 3 gentlemen, the most recent of which lasted a year but once again, ended. Amicably. I'm excellent at breakups apparently. I have just reentered the world of on-line dating and was thinking how I used to chronicle my exploits here. A lot of things have changed in the interim - texting, Facebook being open to all, the ubiquity of camera phones, a new generation of dating sites/apps. But, a lot of things haven't. Men are still...men. The technology may have changed, but the people behind the scenes are still the same. The main difference is that I'm now 15 years older. Maybe, just maybe, I'm also wiser. And maybe, if I cross my fingers really hard, so are the gentlemen I end up meeting.
