And now, for your viewing horror...

You - "Oh no she di'int!"

Me - "Yup, I went there."

You - "But why? I mean, really, what purpose could it possibly serve?"

Me - "Well, I needed some accountability. I needed to know exactly what I'm talking about when I say, 'I need to lose a little weight.'"

You - "Apparently, you also needed some humiliation because, c'mon. Putting your "Before" pictures up on the internet? Holy bejeezus."

Me - "I know. I'm kind of appalled at myself as well. Especially since some of my readers happen to be ex-boyfriends (Hi guys! See what you're missing?) and co-workers. And a whole hell of a lot of people that I don't even know but who can now say they have seen me in as little as I ever tend to be dressed in. Especially on the abs. I love that they invented tankinis in my lifetime because my abs never see the light of day (as you can see from the overly caucasian pigmentation.) As you can also see, I have no hips or waist. None. I go from shoulder to knee with nary a degree of indentation. Unless I remove a rib, this will most likely continue to be the case."

You - "Aaahhh, my retinas!"

Me - "Good lord, it's not that awful. It was a lot worse fifteen pounds and no muscle ago. In fact, I keep looking at these pictures thinking, 'hmm, not as bad as I thought,' but then, 'Do I really stand that swaybacked?' Anyway, sorry. I was trying to inspire you, not blind you. But I see now that I have failed. My bad. Hopefully in six weeks I can share some new and improved Sassy pictures while doing less damage to your eye structure. And more boosting of my ego."

you are a brave woman! good for you! always better to just face up to our fears! um. forgive me for not following suit! (I'm a sissy)
I also applaud you for capturing this before time. I, like pagalina, will not be playing along with this. I prefer to see myself in the best way possible, and me with abs exposed, front-and-center is just not flattering in the least;>

Now *that* is somebody walking the walk! If I were wearing a hat, I'd be taking it off to you.

And, just for the record, your "before" looks better than most people's "after".

Thank you all. I'm glad you were not rendered mute by the images. (Mrs. Harridan - those were my "red hot belly shots", sans fetus. Congrats on the new baby!)

What I've learned so far from being forced to look at the pictures is perspective. It's one thing to have a breakdown moment screaming, "I'm a big fat lardass! I never should have eaten that [insert food product of choice here.]" it's another to actually step back and SEE yourself. And probably, more importantly, look kindly upon yourself. Self-hatred is pretty potent. Self-awareness is a way to counter act it. (Don't ask me where I'm getting this "wisdom," or where I get off imparting it, I'm just making shit up as I go along.)

I found that same theory holds true for eating habits. If I don't know what I'm eating, I tend to assume I'm eating too much and should be punished. My worst moments were when I thought I'd eaten too much. When I actually started writing things down and looked at the journal, I hadn't been doing all that bad. But I'd been giving myself the riot act for no reason.

I do have to say that when I say I "need" to lose weight, I mean "want." That's something I should try to change vocabulary-wise since I have not been told I need to lose weight for medical purposes (although the Type I and Type 2 diabetes on both sides of my family kind of looms over me.)Just like changing "I can't" to "I won't." The first implies I have no options, the second means I made a choice. And really, when it comes down to it, eating healthy and exercising is all about choice.

In the immortal words of Bill and Ted, "Be excellent to each other." And to yourself.

I on the other hand don't need to do that because while walking today I was told that I was too sexy to exercise and was axed for my digits. Yup I was! Didn't know if i was flattered or what. When I wouldn't give him my digits he axed if I would follow him to his ride so he could get a pen and give me his so I could call him and say HI.
Why??? Why can't I be left along when I walk? Is it really too much to ask for? At least crazy old man isn't out cheering me on giving me the creeps.
I only ate 1 breakfast today. Yesterday after the homemade doughnuts (which was breakfast #2) There was blueberry pancakes. I can't resist blueberry pancakes. I was so ashamed of myself. I did only eat 1 lunch and 1 dinner. Yeah Me!!!!

Writing from the perspective of a man, the pictures you bravely posted, reveal an attractive woman. (And you even posted your height and weight.) I do not claim to represent all men, but I am confident that other men consider a number of different factors. I look at a woman's face, how she carries herself, takes care of her appearance, her shape, and, yes, her legs and buttocks, not necessarily in that order. Many attributes contribute to my overall assessment of female beauty. A person with a little more body to love, may look beautiful to me, just on her face alone, her hair, her complexion, her skin, her smile, her outfit, her shape, or any combination of these features. Some of my turn-offs are bad manners, contempt for other people, total disregard for one's personal health, too much makeup, drug usage, extreme weight conditions, both under and over. I actually prefer a medium build, and a little under or a little over look great. I am an ardent admirer of an hourglass figure, with real and natural curves. So, all in all, you look like a medium build. You are desirable. And the fact that you have an interest in good health is a huge plus. Cheers.

Gone by the wayside

I have no idea if anyone is reading this anymore. If you have been loyally checking back now and again I applaud you. At one point this blog was a therapeutic outlet for me. I'm glad to have a chronicle of my experiences during this time of my life. Now, however, instead of a creative outlet it's more of a nagging reminder that I should be posting and this girl does not need one more thing on her "To Do" list. I'd love for you to explore the archives if you so chose. If you have already done so, here's a brief update: Friendster Guy and I are still together and co-habitating. We are in domestic, but still unwedded, bliss (that status could be a post or two in and of itself, but, as I've just said, I'm done with that.) We're so domesticated we're in the market for granite countertops. We also just returned from an Aussie/New Zealand vacation and if 8 days in a tiny RV won't solidify (or destroy) a relationship nothing will. We're stronge

Making Eye Babies

Colleges often have a lot of rules the students need to follow. After all, a bunch of 18-21 year olds can't really be expected to self-govern on their own, at least not 24/7, no matter how vehement they are that they can do just that. (I was 18-21 once myself so I know it's annoying to hear that. I don't mean all 18-21 year olds individually, I mean when they all get together in one place.) Then there are Christian Colleges which have more rules, often based on biblical teachings and moral dictates. Further down the spectrum is Bob Jones University* which considers the Christian colleges just too darn liberal so they piles on a bunch of morally based codes of behavior. Not to be outdone by the crazy liberal heathens at Bob Jones, Pensacola Christian College goes hog wild with the rules and moral imperatives and makes the Taliban look almost liberal. An article in the March 24th edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education explains some of the rules and regulations the stu

Everything old is new again...

It's been 10 years since last I posted here. Ten. Years. I guess it is true that things on the internet never disappear. I'm honestly shocked I was able to log in. A quick update: Friendster Guy and I split up, amicably, 2 years ago. Since then I've dated 3 gentlemen, the most recent of which lasted a year but once again, ended. Amicably. I'm excellent at breakups apparently. I have just reentered the world of on-line dating and was thinking how I used to chronicle my exploits here. A lot of things have changed in the interim - texting, Facebook being open to all, the ubiquity of camera phones, a new generation of dating sites/apps. But, a lot of things haven't. Men are still...men. The technology may have changed, but the people behind the scenes are still the same. The main difference is that I'm now 15 years older. Maybe, just maybe, I'm also wiser. And maybe, if I cross my fingers really hard, so are the gentlemen I end up meeting.
